MBIA Awards

2024 MBIA Builder of the Year & Associate of the Year.

The Montana Building Industry Association is accepting nominations for the MBIA Builder of the Year and MBIA Associate of the Year awards.

The winners will be presented at the MBIA winter board meeting on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in Helena, MT at the Great Northern Best Western Hotel.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for this award, the nominee must be a member in good standing of the MBIA and one of the affiliated local associations. Past award winners are not eligible to win again for five years following his or her award. Definitions are below.

APPLICATION PROCESS
To nominate a member for this award, please submit the following items:

  • A completed nomination form,

  • A cover letter explaining why the nominee is deserving of the award,

  • Letters of recommendation (optional but encouraged).

All nominations, cover letters, and letters of recommendation must be submitted to the MBIA via email to ExecDir@MontanaBIA.com by Friday, December 20, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

AWARD CRITERIA
Total available points, 100 points

  • Involvement in the local HBA, 15 points

  • MBIA involvement, 25 points

  • Involvement with the National Association of Home Builders, 10 points

  • Participation in the community/civic affairs outside of HBA, 15 points

  • Membership recruitment activities, 10 points

  • Promotion of “doing business with other members”, 10 points

  • Advancing the reputation of the construction industry, 15 points

*NOTE ABOUT NOMINATIONS
A local association, local association employee, or any member of the MBIA can make nominations.

JUDGING
The Award Committee will consist of one member from each local association, the previous year's award winners, and the MBIA President. This Committee will read the nomination forms and vote toward selecting the winner as provided by the MIBA Executive Director.

DEFINITIONS

Membership levels as defined in the MBIA Bylaws approved in Oct 2020.

BUILDER MEMBERSHIP. Builder Member is defined in contemporary business terms as: any individual who is or has been in, or employed by, a firm or corporation in the business of building or rebuilding homes, apartments, schools, commercial, industrial, agricultural, or other structures normally related and appurtenant to a community or in land development, who subscribes to the Code of Ethics of this Association: who is of good character and business reputation; and shall be eligible to be a Builder Member provided such individual, or the firm or corporation which employs him or her, is in the above-described business, and:

(1) Has been accepted as Builder Member in good standing of any affiliated local association or chapter of this Association; or

(2) Has operated in any area not within the jurisdiction of any affiliated association or chapter and is approved by the Board of Directors.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP.  An Associate Member is defined in contemporary business terms as: any person, firm or corporation who subscribes to the Code of Ethics and objectives of this Association and who is of good character and business reputation. Such a person, firm or corporation shall be eligible to be an Associate Member: provided that such Associate is engaged in a trade, industry or profession related to building, and: 

(1) Has been accepted as an Associate Member in good standing of any affiliated local association or chapter of this Association: Or

(2) Operates in an area not within the jurisdiction of any affiliated local association or chapter and is approved by the Board of Directors
